I always look forward to seeing female-led brand
Cushnie et Ochs at New York Fashion Week! Well known for their seductive silohuettes, Carly Cushnie and Michelle Ochs took the fashion world by storm in 2008 with their unexpected geometric cutouts and bold pops of color. Their
Fall 2015 RTW collection showed far less cutouts this time around, but did not
exactly push the experimental envelope either.
Everything they did in black was spot-on and perhaps it was because these looks showcased their signature sexy aesthetic: sharp lines, body-hugging dresses with flare, and curved cutouts revealing just a bit of skin. The all-black ensembles harked back to their earlier presentations and better embodied this modern woman they design for. However, the looks in pink, deep green (save one amazing jumpsuit on model
Lais Ribeiro), and red left me unsure of how to interpret.
To be frank, the collection read formalwear to me and not in the most flattering way. There was a pink overcoat with lapels a little too large, a tuxedo vest jumpsuit which in concept sounds amazing, but in practice was somewhat flat, and a red dress with overdone cap sleeves. The inclusion of a velvet green suit and a mammoth blue fur coat felt out of place towards the end of the line-up, regardless of how beautiful the pieces were on their own.
What do you think about the
Cushnie et Ochs’ Fall 2015 RTW Collection?
