Hourglass Ambient Lighting Bronzer Luminous Bronze Light Review

Hey Gorgeous Gals,

Surprise! Surprise! I have an another bronzer review today. You generally don’t see me reviewing bronzers. However, off late I have been experimenting with them – hence, the reviews. Today’s review is on a bronzer from the much loved brand Hourglass.

Product Description:
What it is:
An illuminating bronzer with Photoluminescent Technology, featuring bronze pigments that deliver a natural-looking, sunkissed glow while flaunting depth and dimension.

What it does:
Ambient Lighting Bronzer’s sheer, airy formula sweeps softly onto skin for a healthy-looking, radiant finish. It’s formulated with Photoluminescent Technology, featuring optically transparent particles that transform the look of skin by manipulating and refracting light to emphasize your best features. The optically transparent particles allow for seamless blending and color transitions. The powders, blended by hand using an advanced miscelare technique, offer the perfect balance of pigments in a gorgeous pattern. Use this bronzer alone, or paired with Ambient Lighting Powder for maximum control to create depth and dimension—or even use it for a subtle contouring effect.

What else you need to know:
“Most bronzers are flat and look unnatural. That’s where the Photoluminescent Technology really lends itself to the Ambient Lighting Bronzer. It’s perfect for creating a natural sunkissed glow. I personally love using Luminous Bronze Light for subtle contouring because it blends seamlessly with the Ambient Lighting Powders and blushes.”—Carisa Janes, Hourglass Founder

Hourglass products are 100 percent cruelty-free.

Suggested Usage:
To create a warm look:
-Using the Hourglass No.1 Powder Brush, gently swirl the entire compact to pick up the perfect balance of pigment and powder.
-Lightly apply all over face to achieve a sun-kissed look.

To define:

-Use a brush to apply Ambient Bronzer as a subtle contour along the temples, hollows of the cheeks, and jawline.
-Ambient Bronzer works best when applied after Ambient Lighting Powder and before Ambient Lighting Blush

My Experience with Hourglass Ambient Lighting Bronzer Luminous Bronze Light:

Packaging: The packaging is quite similar to their blush line, except for the fact that the compact in this case is more bronze looking. It is a plastic compact which looks hefty but is actually fairly lightweight to carry around. There is a generous sized good quality mirror but no free applicators.

Shade: Hourglass has 4 variants in their bronzer range. This is the second variant – suitable for light to medium complexion – so, perfect for me. It is a medium bronze shade fused with Luminous Light for a softer, candlelit warmth. (Ideal for light/medium complexions). It is a warm-toned, light to medium golden brown shade with yellow undertones and golden shimmer. There is no redness or grey in it, which would make it look muddy on the skin or make the skin look sallow. On swatching, I thought that the shade would be too light to show up on me. It does take me a couple of layers, but it does show up on my skin and compliments it. The fact that I have to use 2 layers may have more to do with the marbling in the pan rather than the depth of shade itself. Meaning? Each of the bronzers are made with the fusion of a bronze shade with an ambient lighting shade. Both products are used in equal quantities creating a marbling effect. Depending on the marbling exposed to the surface, whether it has more of the ambient lighting powder or the bronzing powder, the effect may vary subtly. The exposed portion of my pan has more ambient lighting powder. But as I will dig in, the ratio in the exposed part will vary and I may not need to layer it up anymore. I doubt the shade will show up on medium to tan skin tone or above. You will need to go for a darker shade instead.

Texture: Since the bronzers are fused with an ambient lighting powder (quite like their blush range), this ensures that the bronzer is lightweight and has a radiant finish. On swatching, there seemed to be too much shimmer to perform well as a bronzer. However, once applied it transforms. Post application, I do not see the shimmer at all. It just gives an slightly bronze glow instead. It feels quite like a traditional powder product. It is smooth, easily blendable but does not have a thickish creamy feel that certain powder products have nowadays. It applies easily and blends out smoothly without going patchy or the colour sticking to the first point of application. The shade blended into the skin and melted into it very nicely.

Pigmentation: Pigmentation is a good. As I have explained earlier, a lot will depend on the marbled portion exposed in your pan. But as per the brand, the product is suitable for light to medium skin tone and my skin is the perfect example of that. It is distinct and yet can be blended out smoothly into the skin. It does not highlight the appearance of texture and the open pores present on my skin.

Longevity: The product gave excellent wear. I got about 8-9 hours of wear with the shade.

Do I Recommend Hourglass Ambient Lighting Bronzer Luminous Bronze Light?
While I do love the product and the ease of application, it melts smoothly into the skin giving a radiant luminous finish, and does not look powdery at all; I feel that had I not purchased it as a palette, I would probably have gone for a shade a tad bit darker. Would recommend only if you have light to borderline medium skin tone.
